It’s not always about the money and celebs prove so when they star in movies without expecting a paycheck. Be it for courtesy’s sake or sheer love for the project, there are a number of celebs who worked free of cost to feature in eminent movies and songs that have made a mark.
You’ll be surprised how many projects fall into this category, read on to know.
1. Kareena Kapoor Khan
Bebo is a pro at shaking a leg and it’s hard to think of one that didn’t turn into a hit number. Remember Marjaani from Billu where Kareena romanced Shahrukh Khan? We bet you didn’t know that she politely returned her cheque for this song as soon as she received it. She did the same on another occasion with Salman Khan, when she danced away on Fevicol Se for Dabangg 2. Bebo definitely loves the Khans of this industry, no?
2. Priyanka Chopra
Along with the rest of the world, even Bollywood divas are no strangers to Shahrukh’s charm. Another song from Billu that Priyanka Chopra starred in was a complimentary project as a token of their friendship. We’re talking about the number – You Get Me Rocking And Reeling, and it’s surely playing in your head right now.
3. Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone was a star ever since she debuted in Om Shanti Om. We were all in awe of her beauty and gorgeous portrayal of a popular celebrity in the film, to an extent she immediately resonated the character in real life too. Apparently, she considered it great fortune to kick-start her career alongside King Khan and thus denied any remuneration. Well, look how it all worked out for her.
4. Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif swooned to the catchy tunes of Chikni Chameli in Agneepath for no cost at all, as a friendly gesture for Producer, Karan Johar. The truest friend of Bollywood, KJo returned the favour by gifting her a Ferrari. What a sweetheart. Who doesn’t love a luxurious gift like that?
5. Sonam Kapoor
Sonam absolutely loved the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag script, so much that she charged just a shagun of Rs. 11 for her lovely cameo. Her role in the film was of a coy country girl that made the audience smile amidst the harsh realities of Milkha’s bio-film. Thanks, Sonam!
6. Shahid Kapoor
Shahid Kapoor was on cloud nine, we can say when Haider was offered to him by the off-beat cinema king, Vishal Bhardwaj. He had the utmost faith in the script and his skills to turn this into a blockbuster. The film can count as a major milestone in Shahid’s career, that kickstarted a new chapter for him in this industry.
7. Rani Mukherjee
Karan Johar believes Kajol and Rani to be his lucky charms, apart from the use of his superstitious “K” as initials. While both of them have given several brief appearances in his various movies, Rani’s role in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham remains our favourite – a role she charged nothing for. Queen!
8. Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi has done most of her films with Akshay Kumar. There’s Rowdy Rathore, Joker, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara, and Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty. So when she charged nothing for a song in his movie Boss, we weren’t surprised one bit.
9. Salman Khan
Salman is known for his generosity, he goes out of his way for his pals and never refuses cameos. Especially when it’s a Katrina film. He has featured in films like Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani, Tees Maar Khaan, Son Of Sardaar and Fugly; all for no cost!
10. Shah Rukh Khan
The star who gets his friends onboard for cameos do not stand behind when it’s his turn to return a gesture. We all know how tight Juhi Chawla is with Shahrukh, they’re friends and business partners! He thus played her husband in the Bhoothnath series without charging a dime. Camaraderie wins!
Still think it’s a money-minded fraternity? Think again.
