A quarter century has passed since we first saw Kajol set foot in Bollywood. After playing myriad roles and getting under the skin of every character so precisely, she’s still going strong at 42.
And this week, not only does she celebrate 25 years in Bollywood, but it also happens to be her birthday week! Which gives us more than one reason to fall in love with this rebellious diva once again.
Her journey in Bollywood is filled with an extravaganza of drama, comedy & romance. Here’s a list of Kajol movies you must stream on Spuul right away!
In 1993, Abbas-Mustan made a blockbuster thriller, Baazigar starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. Kajol’s character, Priya, faces the misfortune of losing her sister and takes it upon herself to solve the murder mystery. Brave and fierce, she does complete justice to her role! SRK’s anti-hero role and his chemistry with Kajol is something to watch out for. This was the first film to star this duo who turned out to be one of the best on-screen pairs of Bollywood!
For an actor who was just one film old, Kajol had already proven her mettle with Baazigar and this was just the beginning of her spectacular journey in Bollywood.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
What can we say about the most celebrated and longest running film of all time? This 1995, Yash Raj mega blockbuster proved to be the epitome of romance in Indian Cinema. Kajol’s performance as a sanskari girl with big dreams was loved by every Indian girl. Afterall, her role was not only relatable but also rebellious!
She won her first Filmfare award for DDLJ and India found their Romeo & Juliet in Raj & Simran.
In 1997, came Ishq – a romantic comedy with engaging performances from Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgan, Juhi Chawla and Kajol. This film has the rich guy-poor girl/rich girl-poor guy formula mixed with hilarious moments. Kajol played a pretty and soft-spoken young girl which was the complete opposite of her real-life avatar, yet she does a mind-blowing job!
Apart from real-life, this was one of the movies in which Kajol shared screen-space with her then to-be hubby – Ajay Devgan.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
In 1998 KJo came up with his directorial debut – Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film that had it all, friendship, love, and loss, became the ideal story of friendship in Bollywood. Kajol’s portrayal of a sporty college girl, Anjali in a smart bob-cut was a refreshing change for the Indian audience. Anjali’s love and sacrifice for Rahul did not fail at moving us to tears and Kajol to yet another Filmfare!
K2H2 also gave us friendship shenanigans like never before and for a girl to have a boy best friend wasn’t a big deal anymore! Thanks, KJo.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
2001, the year KJo released his second film, again a huge blockbuster that many fans know word to word till date. Kajol plays a Chandni Chowk girl here – though she was vivacious and cheery, she never dreamt of anything more than making her dad proud. Her comic-timing and screechy cries in K3G left the audience in guffaws and awe!
Yet again she won the Best Actress Filmfare for this family drama which she aced like a pro!
In 2006, after a break, Kajol made an amazing comeback with Fanaa. This romantic – thriller saw her in the role of a blind girl – Zooni, who falls for a tourist guide. She’s a smart Kashmiri, whose parents want her to dream big and beyond despite her physical challenge. A sudden plot twist turns her life upside down and the second half sees her as a lively and headstrong mother.
She bagged a Filmfare for this challenging act and proved her theatrical prowess yet again!
Our love for this dynamic diva knows no bounds! Watch movies of Kajol.
