The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai cast celebrated the movie’s 20 year anniversary this week by throwing a star-studded Dharma party! This grand affair saw the owner Karan Johar and actors Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee grace the occasion along with newbies Jhanvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar.
Oh and we saw the Student Of The Year 2 cast as well. The red carpet was quite literally on fire!
Well, we weren’t surprised because K2H2 happens to be one of the biggest, most epic blockbusters of B-town! It single-handedly created a wave of trends in our country and gave us adorable characters that we will quote and remember forever. Let’s just say you’re not a Bollywood fan if you haven’t fought with your best friend and enacted the Rahul and Anjali handshake to make up after. You aren’t a Bollywood fan if you haven’t flirted with your crush by handing a “friendship band” to them. And you’re definitely not a Bollywood fan if you haven’t quoted “Kuch kuch hota hai, Rahul.. Tum nahi samjhoge” endlessly and without context in multiple conversations!
On this happy occasion Shah Rukh Khan, the ever cynical and witty, shared a word or two about his iconic portrayal of Rahul and what he felt about the character after all these years. While he agreed on enjoying all the fun on the sets and being glad about taking up the film, he said he now found Rahul’s character “creepy”.
I used to think he was very cool back then, but now I actually find him quite creepy.
“What is with the whole hugging one girl and holding another girl’s hand like that? And even creepily staring at a girl who’s saree just came off.”
It was all in a witty tone of course, Karan Johar added to this fun conversation and said that Rahul was a “fraud” too!
“Rahul was also quite a fraud, don’t you think? He says ‘hum ek baar jite hai, ek baar marte hain, shaadi bhi ek hi baar hoti hai, aur pyaar, pyaar bhi ek hi baar hota hai.’ But, actually ends up falling in love twice and getting married twice.”
By now we think this discussion escalated rather quickly when Shahrukh takes Rahul’s side and says that he always has an explanation for such situations.
“Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Anjali, Tum Nahi Samjhogi”
We thought the laugh riot had ended here when Shahrukh began to reveal that Karan Johar started crying while narrating the script and he barely understood anything which made him think the story was crap! WHAT! He notoriously added that he was glad he did K2H2 without hearing the script properly because it turned out to be such a hit.
Isn’t Shahrukh the funniest?! We can’t imagine the film being altered in any manner. Share with us your favourite K2H2 moment in the comments below. Ours is definitely the scene where Rahul sneaks into Tina’s room and bows down to her to express his love! “Aur…”
