Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor were Bollywood’s most loved couple, but even before their 2007 release, Jab We Met, hit the big screen, they had sadly broken up. Soon after the rumours, the real news came in, Kareena had chosen Saif Ali Khan as her soulmate, while Shahid went on to date Priyanka Chopra.
Priyanka and Kareena had starred in two movies together – Aitraaz and Don. Typically, the two biggest actresses of Bollywood didn’t just have a competitive career amidst them, they now had a lover too. Rumours went viral back in the day about the two queens not getting along at all, and their appearance and words on Koffee With Karan proved their mutual dislike for each other.
Kareena Kapoor told Karan Johar, ‘I wonder where Priyanka got her accent from?’
To which the latter tactfully replied saying, “I think it’s the same place that her boyfriend gets it from,” referring to Saif’s foreign education.
In another interview Priyanka was asked if there was anything she’d never ever forget in her life and she said, “Once someone asked Kareena who is her competition in the industry, Kareena replied – Rani Mukerji. Then she was asked don’t you think Priyanka Chopra, the reply by Kareena was, oh I thought you were asking about the actress.”
On Koffee With Karan Priyanka was also asked what she would steal from computers of Bollywood superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and others, Priyanka giggled and asked, “Does Kareena have a computer in the first place?”
Dayum, desi girl!
Though the biggest blow to Priyanka was Kareena’s petty comment, where she said she didn’t care about “National Awards”
Kareena said, “I don’t want the national award… I seriously don’t need any such thing. I would only want the audience to go and watch the film once and that will be more than enough for me. Once everybody should see the movie and say it is a good watch.”
But Priyanka’s sarcastic response was to the point, “Well, I guess if you don’t have one (National Award), then it’s just sour grapes!”
Although we did notice the fire clearing out when Kareena Kapoor Khan almost appreciated Priyanka Chopra’s global work and said she ‘has made the nation proud’. So what if her comments sounded more disheartened than proud, this was an improvement for sure. Likewise, Priyanka wished the Pataudi family well for Taimur’s birth.
To sum it up, after almost a decade of verbal war from a distance, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Kareena Kapoor Khan have finally agreed on appearing on Koffee With Karan for the finale episode. We can’t imagine how KJo made these two agree, but it’s one episode that the country will tune into and watch with eager hearts. Hello, drama!
But phew! 2018 has surely been empowering for women, because if these two queen bees were able to look beyond their past differences and team up, then so can all of us. Don’t you agree?
