Priyanka Chopra breaks her silence about the big royal mystery: Is she invited to the royal wedding? Yes. Is she going to be a bridesmaid? No.
The Quantico star confirmed this news in an interview with People Now and mentioned how excited she is for Meghan and the wedding. “I’m super excited about her and her big day,” Chopra, 35, said of her close friend. “It’s not just going to be life-changing for both of them, it’s life-changing for the world that needs to see strong women as icons, and I think Meghan has the potential to be that.”
Priyanka has always been in awe of Meghan, she has spoken fondly of her in the past and continues to do so. “She’s just a really real girl,” Chopra told People Now of Meghan. “She’s a girl’s girl. She’s a really relatable young woman who is concerned about the world just like you and I are. That’s what I love the most about her. I feel like her authenticity is what’s going to make her really stand out in this new life she’s going to take on.”
There’s so much in common between Chopra and Markle. They’ve both had major roles in television blockbusters, they come from different ethnicities and have managed to stand out in the American industry and they’re both philanthropists. So how did these two gems meet?
In July 2016, Markle spoke about their friendship with PTI (Press Trust of India) and even mentioned their first interaction. “Priyanka is unbelievable,” Markle said. “She has become a really good friend. ELLE Magazine in the U.S. hosted a dinner celebrating Women in TV, and we met that night — turns out that she really likes Suits.” She also said it was basically friendship at first sight. “And you know when you meet someone and you just ‘click’… It was just an easy, natural progression.” Markle added, “We’ve managed to keep in touch via email and text, and try to see each other whenever we’re both in the same town.”
But as it turns out, they’re not that tight either and even if they were, royal weddings have some strict traditions in place. Historically at royal weddings, the bride and groom stay away from the traditional bridal party and instead have a group of younger relatives and loved ones serve as bridesmaids and page boys. This happened at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011, and at Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ wedding in 1981. But we can still hope to see a maid of honour and we already know who the best man is: Prince William! Kensington Palace recently revealed that Harry asked his older brother to serve as best man, just as Harry did for him in 2011. As for Meghan’s maid of honour? That’s still a mystery.
Well, May 19 is when we’ll see this high-profile wedding take place at Windsor Castle in England and apparently there’s only one concern PeeCee has:
“I am only concerned about the hat, I don’t know if I’ll be cute in a hat.”
